Jordan and EdTech Partners Launch National AI‑Driven Literacy Drive for Primary Schools

Jordan’s education authorities have contracted with three education technology partners to deploy an AI-supported reading initiative aimed at improving English literacy in the early grades. The program combines teacher coaching, classroom-aligned materials localized for Jordan, and an AI agent that listens to students read and supplies immediate corrective feedback. Implementation begins with cohorts in grades 4 and 7 and includes a preparatory phase for teachers followed by a defined instructional block of twelve weeks. During the active intervention students will receive short, individualized AI tutoring sessions three to five times per week, each lasting roughly ten to fifteen minutes. Pre- and post-intervention assessments will be collected to measure gains and to inform a year-long national rollout plan with adjusted norms for the local context. Project partners expect measurable reading improvements, forecasting an annual literacy gain equivalent to two to eight months of additional learning for participating students. The program also promises dashboards and analytics for teachers and administrators so classroom practice can be aligned with national curriculum goals while tracking individual student progress. Local implementation and materials will be adapted into Arabic for educators and families, and local partners will support on-the-ground delivery and capacity building. The initiative is positioned as a scalable model intended to show how targeted AI tools, when combined with evidence-based pedagogy, can accelerate English-language development and support broader educational equity objectives. If expanded nationally, the intervention could reach up to 800,000 students, creating a substantial data set for evaluating AI-assisted literacy at scale. The partners plan to use outcome data to refine assessment norms and instructional materials, with an eye toward replicability across the region. Success hinges on teacher uptake, fidelity of implementation, and the quality of localized content and professional learning supports.
