Insurgent networks are sourcing components and finished units through cross-border smuggling channels, and foreign fighters and trainers appear to be accelerating the transfer of know-how. The technology lowers the cost and risk of operations for militants while expanding the range of feasible targets and attack profiles. Casualty reports from specific incidents underline the immediate human toll: military personnel and civilians have been killed and wounded in linked strikes across the region. Analysts and regional security researchers argue that current defence postures lack sufficient countermeasures such as electronic jamming, short-range air defences and targeted disruption of assembly sites.
